Welcome Newbies!

WELCOME to the Hawk Band Family!! Any organization is only as good as its newest members, and Band is no exception! Armwood has always been a hub for talent, and with strong music programs in our elementary and middle schools – our Freshman class is strong both in numbers and in musical ability. There are many ways in which we try to acclimate students and parents to our Band Program. It is always our hope that our communications are clear and sufficient to convey our happenings, but we know there will be questions that will remain unanswered. Below are a few programs we have instituted to introduce and orient our new Hawk Families. For details on what you can expect as a parent, please visit the Booster page.

Varsity Marching Band

The Varsity Marching Band represents the highest level of commitment and performance within the program. Students in this ensemble are expected to demonstrate responsibility, teamwork, and musical excellence.

Varsity Marching Band Expectations

  • Students enrolled in Wind Ensemble & Eurythmics are automatically members of Varsity Marching Band.
  • Varsity members must meet all performance, attendance, academic and behavior expectations established by the directors.
  • Students who do not maintain Varsity expectations may be moved to Junior Varsity, and Wind Ensemble students may be reassigned to Concert Band if necessary.
  • Varsity members must attend all rehearsals, performances, and required events.

Varsity members participate in:

  • All football games home & away
  • Competitions
  • School pep Rallies & Parades

Varsity rehearsals are held after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Varsity members must attend all the summer camps required to remain eligible for the Varsity Marching Band

Final Notes:

Participation level placement is determined by student commitment, attendance, and adherence to program expectations. These guidelines are in place to ensure a positive experience for all students while maintaining the high standards of the Armwood High School Band & Guard Program.

If you have any questions regarding placement, expectations, or scheduling, please contact the band staff.

Junior Varsity (J.V.) Marching Band

The Junior Varsity Marching Band is intended for students who are unable to make the full commitment required for Varsity Marching Band or who need additional time to adjust to the demands of high school and marching band participation.

J.V. Marching Band Expectations

  • Members must attend the Saturday, August 8th camp to learn marching fundamentals and be properly fitted for uniforms.
  • Members participate only in home football games and school pep rallies.
  • Members do not attend after-school marching rehearsals.
  • Members are not eligible to participate in first-semester trips, competitions, or parades.

Important Note:
J.V. status applies only to the marching band season. Once the marching season concludes and the concert season begins, all students are held to the same co-curricular expectations. Concert ensembles require participation in rehearsals and performances outside of the regular school day, and these activities are a graded component of the course.

Every ensemble does have meeting times after school. Before each rehearsal there is a mandatory time for study hall. During study hall students should be working on academic studies, if you are caught up on academic studies then students should be practicing / prepping for rehearsal.
